Attach the wire or cable to a fish tape or coat hanger using electrical tape and feed it into the hole until it reaches the opening at the other end.

Enter the attic or crawlspace and look for the wire extending through the drilled hole.
It will not support you and you could fall through.
Have someone at the other end reach through the hole in the drywall grab the fish tape and pull it through with about a foot sticking out of the hole.
While fishing wires never place your weight on the ceiling drywall only.
If you drill too early you ll end up creating a large insulation cotton candy cone which will make retrieving your bit difficult if not impossible.
From the basement or attic push the wire fish tape through the hole you have drilled.
Thread the fish tape.
When cutting through drywall from the interior of a room use a utility knife and cut carefully you don t want to drill through a hidden wire or the paper.
If you must fish wires through exterior walls the best tip is to avoid spinning the flex bit until you make solid contact with the wood you plan to drill through.
When you find the hole in the wall plate remove the wire then uncoil the end of an electrician s fish tape and insert it through the drilled hole in the wall plate.

If you re working from the attic you can drop a weighted string down wall cavity then attach the wire to the string and pull it through.
This is usually a 2 person task.
If you will need to fish wiring through a wall drill a hole through the wood plate in the attic only.
And use semi rigid wiring fish tape to pull your wiring down to your outlet location.
Fishing the wires through walls.
Once the string reaches the bottom go down to the lower opening and tie the cable and string together.
As you move through the attic notice the triangular trusses supporting the roof.
Now you should be ready to fish the wire.
Run the wire or cable to its destination.
If you want to bring the wire up to the attic tie something to a string and lower it through the hole from above.
Most tract homes will have these framing members spaced apart at 16 24 inch intervals.
